After been canceled due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the organizers of the Daang Dokyu – Festival of Philippine Documentaries – announced this week that the festival will open online on September 19th during Martial Law Anniversary and will close on November 5th. #NeverAgain

The 1st DaangDokyu will showcase an inclusive program of Philippine documentaries from the early days of Philippine cinema and television to contemporary times. Headed by filmmakers Jewel Maranan, Baby Ruth Villarama, Kara Magsanoc-Alikpala, and Monster Jimenez, the festival aims to reach a broader audience for documentaries and offer the ‘docu way’ to take stock of how we are as a nation and where we are headed.

The festival’s activities will also feature Q&A with filmamkers, an exhibition of Philippine documentaries, the launch of a book on Philippine documentaries and will culminate with the first-ever Philippine Documentary Forum, which will be the largest gathering of documentary filmmakers in the country.

The Martial Law, Never Again showcase will be screened from September 19th until September 21st (2020). The programme features “Marcos: A Malignant Spirit” (1986) produced by ABS-CBN News, “Mediola Massacre” (1987) made by Lito Tiongson (AsiaVisions, IBON Foundation), “Imeda” (2003) by Ramona Diaz and will premiere two docs in Philippines; A Rustling of Leaves: Inside the Philippine Revolution (1988) by Nettie Wild and Alunsina (2020) by Kiri Dalena.
