We present a list of twelve short films you shouldn’t miss at the 30th Singapore International Film Festival which will take place from November 21st until December 1st (2019) in Singapore.

About the festival:
The Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) is the largest and longest running film event in Singapore. Founded in 1987 by Geoffrey Malone and L. Leland Whitney, the Festival focuses on showcasing international films and providing a global platform for the best of Singapore cinema. Over the decades, it has grown to become an iconic date in the Singapore arts calendar. With its focus on groundbreaking Asian cinema, this prestigious event is known for its dynamic programming and commitment to the development of a vibrant local film culture.

Hello Ahma by Tan Siyou – Singapore, USA | 2019 – 16 minutes

New to America, a young Singaporean girl is unable to return home to attend her grandmother’s funeral. She tries to understand life and death while searching for her grandmother’s reincarnation in a turtle.

I’m not your f***king stereotype by Hesome Chemamah – Thailand | 2019 – 29 minutes

As a Muslim girl from Southern Thailand, Maryam falls prey to racism in school. She begins spiralling into an identity crisis, and starts resenting her name, religion and birthdate.

Following the death of a young girl’s beloved grandmother and pet, she is to relocate to the city with her parents despite their estrangement. While being told how to think, feel and behave by her parents, she reveals love in its rawest form.
