Kim Sunyoung a Korean independent filmmaker donated 80 million KRW (approx. 80K USD) to the Busan International Film Festival to support the production of the documentary about Kim Jiseok.
Kim Sunyoung had a close relationship with the Busan International Film Festival’s Chairman, Lee Yong-kwan and the late Deputy Director, Kim Jiseok. Kim Jiseok organized a film school in Alliance Française de Busan and invited Lee Yong-kwan, professor at Kyungsung University in those days, to give lectures. Inspired by the lectures, Kim under took a career in filmmaking.
The money will be used to fund the production of the documentary about Kim Jiseok. The film will capture the life and moments of the late Deputy Director Kim Jiseok, who devoted himself to discovering and supporting young filmmakers in Asia in addition to his essential role in establishing the Busan International Film Festival as one of the world’s best film festivals. The documentary is expected to Premiere on the 2020 Busan International Film Festival.
