20 Short Films you shouldn’t miss at the 16th Busan International Kids & Youth Film Festival

These are twenty short films you shouldn’t miss at the 16th Busan International Kids & Youth Film Festival which will take place from July 5th – 12th, 2021 in Busan, South Korea.

About the festival:
BIKY is the one of the best festivals that has provided a venue for children and teenagers to communicate through various films from all around world. BIKY has one competition called ‘Ready~Action!’ for films directed by children and teenagers. BIKY aims to discover films by young directors and develop new contents in the relevant fields for the future.

91st Voice by Kim Dong-jun – South Korea | 2021 – 22 minutes
Section: Ready – Action! 15

Ye-ji, who has been always ostracized, tries to push out bad thoughts while standing on the bridge with her eyes tightly closed, as she has always done. Suddenly, a message arrived on her cell phone with a beeping sound. Someone who sent it to her claimed that he is a ‘guardian angel’ for her. Ye-ji gets to know that the guardian angel who saved her, is Jung-woo, and becomes knowing about him. Why did he approach her? What kind of mind does he have toward her? (BIKY 2021)

A night alongside a jaded taxi driver in Hong Kong as a citizen protest rages on. Each interaction with a new passenger provides its own perspective on, or critique of, the tense political situation, and reveals a clear, growing and probably unsolvable divide between people. As such, the taxi slowly transforms into a shelter and the driver into a potential rescuer of stray souls.

A nine-year-old girl lives in the same neighborhood as a father who watches erotic videos next to his child and an old man who habitually molests his neighborhood’s elementary school kids. The girl goes to a corner shop and tries to steal some snacks, but the shop owner catches her on the spot. She puts a coin on the counter which she was holding to pay for a candy and quickly leaves the shop.

The Grape by Kim Seung-mi, Park Yu-gyeong – South Korea | 2020 – 15 minutes

Ji-Soo is bullied at school and her parents are not on good terms with each other. So, neither of the place, school or home, is her comfort zone. One day, she suggests to start a “grape game” at the first family dinner of this year to bring back the good times as she was a child. However, as the game goes on, Ji-Soo realizes that even her family is no longer her home where she can feel safe.
