And Your Bird Can Sing by Miyake Sho – Japan | 2018 – 106 minutes

“I” work in a bookshop in the suburb of a town in the north of Japan sharing his flat with his friend Shizuo. Sachiko, I’s colleague from the bookshop, starts to visit the two man’s flat every night. Graves Without a Name explores the lasting effects of the Cambodian genocide, a 13-year-old boy who loses most of his family begins a search for their graves. Cambodian-born, France-based filmmaker Rithy Panh has dedicated much of his career to investigating the campaign of genocide by the Khmer Rouge during the Cambodian Civil War and memorializing its victims. Touka returns to the island she grew up to attend her mother’s second memorial service. She finds out that her father Seiji is wearing her mother’s clothes. As if that doesn’t come as enough of a shock, Seiji even tells Touka that he is getting married again to a man named Kazuo. Ohong Village by Lim Lungyin –Taiwan, Czech Republic | 2019 – 98 minutes

In the remotest corner of southern Taiwan, the sinking fisherman´s village prepares for another carnival for the god. Sheng, a man reaching his 30s, returns in disguise as an established urban elite. As the carnival escalates, Sheng confronts his persistent father who farms oysters throughout his life and the childhood buddy who always envies his fragile “successfulness.” (JIFF Catalogue 2019)

Scandal Makers by Vo Thanh Hoa – Vietnam | 2018 – 108 minutes

A remake version of the Korean film Scandal Makers (2008). Same as the original film´s storyline, a high riding entertainer who introduces a radio program meets his daughter and grandchild that he never knew about. The film became a big issue as the widely known Vietnamese pop-singer starred the main role. It also could make a big success influenced by the “Korean Fever.” (JIFF Catalogue 2019)

The gold-laden sheep & the sacred mountain by Ridham Janve

After an air force jet crashes in the upper Himalayas, an old shepherd and his servant leaves their herd to find its pilot. The mountain where the jet fell is sacred but the servant’s intentions are not. They struggle through quests of fear and desire, as they tread on forbidden ground. The Kamagasaki Cauldron War by Sato Lee
Japan | 2018 – 115 minutes

Kamagasaki is an “invisible” slum which attracted day laborers and prostitutes since World War II. As developers move in, the local authorities team up with a gang and harass the residents to get rid of the slum. A boy, Kantaro, moves in with a prostitute and a pickpocket.
