We continue with the list of short films that you shouldn’t miss a the 21st Kaohsiung Film Festival which will take place online and in cinemas from October 15th – 31st, 2021 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

**My grandmother is an Egg** by Chang Wu-Ching – Taiwan, UK | 2021 – 9 minutes
**Section**: International Competition – Taiwan Section

My grandmother is a T’ung-yang-hsi. It is a traditional practice of prearranged marriage, selling a young girl to another family to be raised as a future daughter-in-law. Based on extensive interviews and research, the film aims to reflect women’s oppression (KFF 2021).

It’s the day before Hsiao-Chun’s 18th birthday but she overhears a secret which will change the way she looks at her family. As the candlelight on the birthday cake glimmers before her gloomy heart, what wish will she make?

**Neko and Flies** by Tsao Shih-Han – Taiwan | 2020 – 25 minutes

Guards looking after ships usually turn a blind eye to troubles as long as the ship remains safe. Chuang, involved in disputes between foreign fishers, shelters the intellectually-challenged prostitute, Neko, in a dilapidated ship. But the ship owner is selling the ship.

**Oasis** by Chang Hao-Yuan – Taiwan | 2021 – 25 minutes

Fred Chin was imprisoned during the White Terror and suffered 12 years of injustice. He works as a guide at the National Human Rights Museum, believing victims can heal their injuries by telling their own stories. However, can they really “let the past go? “

In the darkness of the night, an illegal logger meets an injured trekker. The trekker offers the man ten times the price of a Formosan cypress to carry him down the mountain. The fates of two souls who trek alone intertwine briefly.

A striving actress is invited to a private, mysterious gourmet club only to discover that her competition has prepared a horrifying banquet which devours her.

The magical Tank Fairy delivers gas tanks unlike any other. Her arrival upends the life of Jojo, a lonely ten-year-old who dreams of dancing and drag. Tank Fairy is a musical extravaganza that encourages us all to embrace our authentic selves.

Xiangning’s only son Zhongze shows abnormal behaviors and claims he is the incarnation of god, Xiangning is convinced he can be modified by force of Lien-Shi, her religious group. With enormous stress and obsession, she enters into a mysterious space.

Kaohsiung MRT foreign workers scandal, which broke out on August 21, 2005, was the most notorious incident since foreign workers were allowed in Taiwan. Fifteen years later, when we interviewed several Thai workers, they knew nothing about the issue…
