These are twenty short films you shouldn’t miss at the 20th Kaohsiung Film Festival which will take place from October 16th until November 1st, 2020 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

About the festival:
The Kaohsiung Film Festival is a film festival held annually in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. Established in 2001, the festival screens both locally produced and international films, in all genres and lengths. The festival also has an international competition section where it hands out awards for outstanding short films

**A Girl Who’s Afraid Of Touching People** by Huang Liang-Hsin – Taiwan, UK | 2019 – 5 minutes | **Section**: Competition Taiwan Section

You may not be able to see the girl, but you know she is afraid of touching people. Now she is going on a journey to overcome her fear, running across the snow, hiding in an apartment and reaching the seashore.

**After the riots, before the liberation** by Iu Chung-Hong – Hong Kong | 2020 – 15 minutes | **Section**: People Power: Hong Kong Generation

2019 in Hong Kong, protests become our daily life. The stuff in the streets after protests are changing our urban landscape. I walked through the streets with my camera. Graffitis, bricks, respirators… everything records what has happened in the city.

**Blüte** by Raito Low – Taiwan, Malaysia | 2020 – 4 minutes

Blüte explores from the female perspective a woman’s first tinge of love which colors her teenage heart. Every woman has the right to love and be loved, so please be proud of your courage to chase after love!

**Boriya** by Min Sung-ah – France, South Korea | 2019 – 17 minutes

Bori, a 7-year-old girl, is bored with the daily routine in the countryside. Everyone is busy except her because it’s a busy farming season. She is looking for someone to play with, but life is not what she thinks.

**Ceremony** by Huang Tsai-Chuan, Chang Yu-Ting – Taiwan | 2020 – 7 minutes

The communication between the living and the dead is achieved through ceremonies. Even though people cry at the top of their lungs and the offerings are abundant, can this fully convey the blessings of family members?

**Comrades** by Kansas Liu – Hong Kong | 2019 – 15 minutes
**Section**: People Power: Hong Kong Generation

The crisis caused by the “Extradition Bill” has continued since June 2019. On 28th July, 2019, there was a clash between police and protestors in west Hong Kong Island. 49 protestors were arrested. Protesters helped each other to prevent anyone being caught alone.

**Father, Son, and the Beach** by Hsu Chieh-Huei – Taiwan | 2020 – 19 minutes
**Section**: Taiwan Competition

Ting-Wei spends his entire summer vacation helping his dad make deliveries on condition that his dad takes him to the beach before school starts. Will his dad, who never keeps his word, remember to fulfill his promise this time?

**Filipiñana** by Rafael Manuel – Philippines, UK | 2020 – 24 minutes

The self-contained cosmos of the golf course reflects societal structures. Although new “tee girl” Isabel still has to learn the rules, she’s already looking for loopholes to subvert the system.

**Fire at Forest** by Myo Aung – Myanmar, Taiwan | 2020 – 25 minutes
**Section**: Taiwan Competition

In 2010, Myanmar opened its borders and attracted foreign capital into the unclaimed land, with China being the most aggressive. Determined to stake their claim, Yung-heung and his comrades have set ablaze large swathes of forest alongside northern Myanmar.

**Growing Pains** by Lin Po-Yu – Taiwan | 2020 – 25 minutes

Fourteen-year-old Yao is sick of his worn-out shoes. One day, after a confrontation with debt collectors, his father suddenly buys him a pair of expensive sneakers. Little did Yao know that this is the start of a tragedy.
