
These are fifteen short films you shouldn’t miss at the Seoul Independent Film Festival (Korea) which will take place from December 1 – 9, 2022.

In a world where you can rent everything from vending machines, a girl wants to be a guitarist, but people choose otherwise for her. (SIFF 2022)

Section: Short Competition
In a peaceful park without people, Hae-in and Jeong-sik are playing Frisbees. Hae-in is truly enjoying the game, while Jeong-sik seems to be distracted. Hesitated, Jeong-sik tells Hae-in that he has to leave soon because he’s got work to do. But, Hae-in has no intention to let him go. She suggests Jeong-sik that he could leave if they succeeded to perform seven rallies in a row. Jeong-sik willingly accepts her suggestion, thinking that he could make it. But it seems not easy for him to leave due to a series of mistakes that Hae-in keeps making. (SIFF 2022)

Section: New Choice
Someone broke the camera while shooting a film. Woohyeon, who is visually impaired, sets out with her hearing-impaired friend Ha-yan to find the culprit. This short film was produced in the “Barrier-Free” format to help disabled viewers access visual content and raise awareness of their human rights. (SIFF 2022)

Section: New Choice
Yeon-woo from an orphanage comes to Hae-jin’s real estate to find a house. Hae-jin is in conflict between the house owner who rejects contract and Yeon-woo who must find a house today. (SIFF 2022)

Seung-Yun and his apprentice Min-A head over to Ju-Hwan’s studio. (SIFF 2022)

Section: New Choice
Ji-ho takes the electric bike that needed the fortune to buy and goes on delivery like any other day. Yet, Ji-ho gets involved in a delivery accident. Ji-ho tries to rectify the error, but once the situation goes wrong, it keeps snowballing. After having an unexpectedly difficult day, Ji-ho’s way home from work is indeed not rosy at all. (SIFF 2022)

The film begins with a girl’s narration of a story about the fire that broke out at an institute for girls and a girl named Yurim. Yurim was particularly afraid of fire but was determined to start one. Based on the true story which took place in 1995—forgotten in most people’s memories despite dozens of casualties. (SIFF 2022)

Eden is driving down the road when the engine fails and her car comes to a stop. Eden calls Haewon and tells him she wants to see him before she leaves Korea, but Haewon keeps saying he just can’t come. The hot summer heats up the road and Eden’s wish to say a proper goodbye does not seem to be coming true. (SIFF 2022)

There are two people who come to strange places and wander. The person waiting for the first snow approaches and talks to the person who is tired of waiting. (SIFF 2022)

Shortly after her father passes away, Jiho’s missing sister comes back after 15 years. Now Jiho, along with her mother and her sister, travels all over Seoul to take down the missing person banners her family had put up. (SIFF 2022)

Section: Festival Choice
The track and field called “Diving” start at a stadium in Gangnam Station, which has the largest floating population in South Korea. It is not until the last scene of the film that a “Start” appears to announce the start of the game. (SIFF 2022)

Section: Short Competition
The elderly at the nursing home have their heads shaved. The protagonist who works there looks at them but can’t read their expressions. However, from one instance, he finds himself looking closely at their faces. (SIFF 2022)

While delivering the newspaper, the girl meets a woman who lost her daughter of the same age as her and they have a conversation. The woman who went to college and worked for a magazine has the same life as the poor girl’s mother. (SIFF 2022)
