We continue with our list of films that you shouldn’t miss at the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival which will take place from November 2 – 20, 2022 in Taipei, Taiwan.

**Haven’t Stopped Lamenting** by Chang Ming-yu – Taiwan | 2022 – 62 minutes
**Section**: Beyond the Verdict

In 1987, Su Ping-kun was found guilty of armed robbery and attempted murder, and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. In the era of Martial Law, he endured abuse and torture from the authority. In 2000, Su received a presidential pardon but still remained guilty in Taiwan’s legal system. He refused to have a tainted name and continued fighting for over 30 years, just to clear his name. Taeko and her husband Jiro are living a peaceful existence with her young son Keita, when a tragic accident brings a strange deaf man back into her life. To cope with the pain and guilt, Taeko throws herself into helping him. In Love Life, Fukada explores the sense of loss and individual loneliness through a woman seeking a new meaning in her life. **Nature of Mother** by Yang Li-chou – Taiwan | 2022 – 60 minutes

A team of five go on an expedition to the South Pole. As they have experienced the blizzard and the excruciating pains, this journey proves to be a challenge to their not only physical but mental strength. While marching towards the end of the world, they explore the unknown darkness in their minds. During the process, director Yang reflects upon his life, turning this film into a loving monologue dedicated to his mother. (TGHFF 2022)

**Next Sohee** by July Jung – South Korea | 2022 – 138 minutes

Sohee is a high school student. Hoping to get a good job, Sohee starts training at a call centre, but she faces enormous pressure from the company. The situation gets too much for a teenager, and it eventually leads to tragedy. Detective Oh Yoo-jin, who has something in common with Sohee, follows the traces to reveal the causes of Sohee’s suffering. (TGHFF 2022)

On an impulse to reconnect with her origins, 25-year-old Freddie returns to South Korea for the first time, where she was born before being adopted and raised in France. More than twenty years ago, Dazhang and his three brothers came to Guangdong to work in a local quartz powder factory. However, a few years later, Dazhang was diagnosed with advanced staged pneumoconiosis. He returns to his hometown, and the pneumoconiosis is gradually killing him every single day. The entire family is stuck in this seemingly endless suffering. (TGHFF 2022)

Zahara, a stateless refugee, lives on a small remote island in Malaysia, where she makes a living selling turtle eggs. One day, Samad, claiming to be a university researcher, visits the island, wanting to employ Zahara to show him around. Sparked by the demolition and reconstruction of its century-old campus, Ying Wa Girls’ School embarks on a project to chronicle the transformation of its students through the camera of director Mabel Cheung, its distinguished alumna. Following a group of young students since 2011, the documentary captures the trials and tribulations that go with the most turbulent decade in Hong Kong’s history. (TGHFF 2022)

Yu Hsing-hui, an innocent student, is inexplicably sentenced as a thought criminal and sent to Green Island for rehabilitation. She sustains the bullying from the officers and there are other prisoners helping her survive. At the same time, the Department launches a movement, which causes a rebellion. Just when the prisoners think the resistance is successful, an even more forceful purge befalls them… (TGHFF 2022)

**When the Waves Are Gone** by Lav Diaz – Philippines, France, Portugal, Denmark | 2022 – 188 minutes

He is a first-hand witness of the murderous anti-drug campaign that his institution is implementing with dedication.
