Overnight, the husband becomes a hero in the eyes of the public, even though he could also be responsible for involuntarily manslaughter. Was his violence to protect or to harm? Jhong wakes up at home and finds himself dead. He watches his wife and children deal with his death as they speak their thoughts over breakfast. Shortly after, absurd things begin to happen: Jhong’s spirit starts nagging beside his own corpse, but no one can hear him; his son is afraid his mother will be charged with manslaughter; the policeman who comes to help is terrified upon seeing Jhong’s ghost; and Jhong’s wife insists on taking her husband’s corpse for a walk by the riverbank. Tensions explode in a perfect storm of inner panic as the mother grapples with a loss of dignity in front of her daughter, while Chung Yi searches for the strength to provide for her dying mother’s needs. Maryam is a 38-year-old woman who heads a family of four. She decides to cut off her right hand while working in a poultry slaughterhouse because, in this way, she can get more money from insurance than losing her left hand to pay her debts. To this end, Maryam starts to practice with her left hand to do daily chores. However, on the appointed day, when she intends to amputate her right hand, the machine suddenly jams, and Maryam’s left hand is accidentally amputated instead of her right hand. One woman and one black cat share a city life together. This life is pleasant and relaxed sometimes, while sad and lonely at other times. The protagonist feels every minute detail in life, and senses the warmth and glitter of life in the briefest of moments. This film takes inspiration from classic French cinema. The director captures the lights and shades of a city and the feeling of solitude with black and white sketches and colorful pastels. The film aspires to be a poem, a brisk song, and a gift to every “one” living alone in cities. (Kaohsiung 2022)

It is May of 1992. The state sanctioned “Operation” has put the city of Karachi in constant unrest. Abdul Aziz Ansari wakes up at night and is informed by his daughter in law, Naseema, that his son hasn’t returned home. As a knock on their door later at night summons them to the hospital. What they witness along the way is known today as the most brutal chapter of the city’s history, a sentiment of hatred towards their race, deep rooted beneath the system. (Kaohsiung 2022)

A man who has a unique way of using toilet paper after pooping. A couple who always orders delivery because they don’t like to put on clothes. A family that has a way to avoid washing dishes. A woman who likes her table to be sparkly clean. People use bags for every little thing, a convenience of life we enjoy every day. Too much waste? No problem, just flush them all down the toilet!
