10 Films you shouldn’t miss at the 24th Seoul International Women’s Film Festival

These are ten feature films you shouldn’t miss at the 24th Seoul International Women’s Film Festival, which will take place from August 25 until September 1, 2022.

**Archaeology of Love** by Lee Wanmin – Korea, France | 2022 – 168 minutes
**Section**: Discovery

Youngsil and Insik become lovers within eight hours of meeting. He knows that she is a free spirit, so, feeling insecure, he makes her promise they will be together no matter what. She tries to keep her word, and they keep in touch even after they break up. After eight years, Youngsil begins to feel something for Udo but can’t do anything. (SIWFF 2022)

**Decameron** by Hui Nga Shu Rita – Korea | 2021 – 108 minutes
**Section**: New Currents

“History is not just a matter of dates,” said Chris Patten in his last speech as the British governor of Hong Kong, shortly before the United Kingdom handed the province back to China in 1997. The film combines this speech and other historical sources with fiction. (SIWFF 2022)

**Gyeong-ah’s Daughter** by Kim Jung-eun – Korea | 2022 -119 minutes
**Section**: The Landscape of Here in Now: An Hommage to Soup

After her husband passes away, the only person Gyeong-ah relies on is her daughter, Yeon-su, but she has barely met her since she moved out. After Yeon-su’s surprise visit, she gets an anonymous message: a video of Yeon-su having sex with an unknown man. Gyeong-ah goes into trauma. (SIWFF 2022)

**Hommage** by Shin Su-won by Shin Su-won – Korea | 2021 – 109 minutes
**Section**: The Landscape of Here in Now: An Hommage to Soup

Ji-wan is a female film director struggling to survive in her career. Meanwhile, a request comes from the Korean Film Archive to restore the sound of an old film made in the 1960s. On a journey back to the era, Ji-wan meets old filmmakers, and through their lives she asks herself, “What is film and life?” (SIWFF 2022)

**Map Without Island** by Kim Sungeun – Korea | 2021 – 92 minutes
**Section**: Polemics: Consensus on Imminent Justice

Yasmin and I were collaborating on a film until she left Jeju Island without receiving refugee status. Upon delivering the letter Yasmin left in my camera to the friends on the island, I encountered a map made from disappearing landscapes and beings who have lost their ways back home. (SIWFF 2022)

**Queer My Friends** by Seo Ahhyun – Korea | 2022 – 82 minutes
**Section**: Queer Rainbow

A-hyeon, a straight Christian woman in South Korea, builds a friendship with Gang-won, a gay man. While overcoming differences and conflicts between people with contrasting lifestyles, the film asks, “What is it to understand others? How can we understand differences and coexist?” (SIWFF 2022)

**The Apartment with Two Women** by Kim Se-in – Korea | 2021 – 140 minutes
**Section**: Discovery

Su-gyeong and I-jeong, mother and daughter, have little affection for one another. When Su-gyeong’s car rushes toward I-jeong in a parking lot, I-jeong does not believe her mother’s claim that it was an accident. I-jeong pursues an apology from Su-gyeong for not just that incident but for her entire life. (SIWFF 2022)
