
We continue with our list of feature films that you shouldn’t miss at the 18th Jecheon International Music & Film Festival, which will take place from August 11 – 16, 2022 in the city of Jecheon, South Korea.

Just before Lee Seungyoon became famous after winning the music audition TV program Sing Again, two women just went to unknown-musician Seungyoon without any notice. One day in 2018, the two women, going through a very tough time, happened to listen to his song and it healed their wounded hearts. After two years, they boldly suggested him to make his music video without any experience. Starting with the ridiculous proposal, their adventurous journey began. (JIMFF 2022)

Nothing Compares is the story of Sinéad O’Connor’s phenomenal rise to worldwide fame and how her iconoclastic personality resulted in her exile from the pop mainstream. An urban drama about Kamil, a wannabe-rapper who should be getting his life and career going but instead gets high, roams around the city, and starts an affair with a bored, rich housewife Iwona, who feels invisible in her marriage and looks for oblivion and ease by taking uncontrolled doses of antidepressants. It’s a polyphonic story about isolated people dreaming of love in the big city. Based on a best-selling novel by cult Polish author Dorota Masłowska. (JIMFF 2022)

Wallflower Lennon Gates yearns for access to the inner sanctum of the underground music scene in Columbus, Ohio. Asano Taigi is a member of the brass band club of Funabashi Municipal High School. He takes up the challenge of writing an original cheering song for the baseball team of Ichifuna. Although difficulties with composition, he creates the legendary cheering song, Ichifuna Soul This goes on to be called the “god-like cheering song.” After graduating from high school, one day, Taigi experienced acute pain and sickness. After her husband’s sudden passing, Min-hee moves to Jeju Island with a few unresolved questions in mind. She settles into the house he had always wanted, and gets to know a neighbor named Mok-ha and her twenty-year-old son, Tae-kyung. She takes a liking to self-confident and exuberant Mok-ha, but at the same time, has odd feelings toward Tae-kyung. As Min-hee learns more about them, she is swept over by turbulence of emotions. Section: Official Korean Competition
Cinema Gwangju is the first theater in the Honam-region and the only theater that opened in 1935. The cinema has screened films in its original place up to these days. A musician Gonne Choi invites the seven musicians to share “Gwangju-ness” from her own perspective and they visit the cinema to speak and sing about their own “Withstanding and Existing”. This documentary also contains the story of the painter Park Tae-gyu, who continuously has been working on hand-painting movie posters from the 1990s until today. (JIMFF 2022)
