40 Short films you shouldn’t miss at the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia – 2022 (Part 1)

These are forty short films you shouldn’t miss at the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia (Japan) which is taking place in cinemas until June 19th and online until June 21st. Winners will be screened online until June 30th, 2022.

Section: Japanese Filmmakers on the Rise 2

A mother, father, and child are trapped in a dark box. The child coughs intermittently. The mother asks how they ended up in this situation and father replies that he has no clue. The sound of bombs exploding in the distance. What’s going on? (SSFF 2022)

Nika returns to her hometown Kiryu to announce her upcoming marriage to her family. Since her grandmother has passed away, her father and mother are alone at home. Nika wants to bring a bit of cheer to the family, but their thoughts and feelings are at odds with each other. Then, her mother suddenly disappears… (SSFF 2022)

A man wanders alone, separated from his family, in search of a place to die. He runs away from the massage therapist who is supposed to comfort him and drives deep into the mountains in a stolen car. He abandons the car and walks further into the forest where he meets a strange young man.

Somewhere foggy. It turns out that this is a place in a VR game played by Jeong-Im. The purpose of the game is to find a house in an unfamiliar place. Jeong-Im begins to enjoy the game in the game, and finally arrives home, but the game does not end.

Maturity by Nazanin Ghanbarimohammadi – Iran | 2021 – 5 minutes

Boys and girls are treated differently when it comes to traditional Iranian culture. When a boy is circumcised, they have a ceremony by celebration to honor his Transformation. While at the same party while eating dinner a little girl has her period for first time, but she gets punished for having her first menstrual cycle. (SSFF 2022)

Moshari by Nuhash Humayun – Bangladesh | 2022 – 22 minutes

Moshari’ is a traditional South Asian mosquito net, made for protection against vermin at night. When the world is overrun with bloodthirsty creatures, staying inside the moshari is the only way to safety. In Dhaka, Bangladesh: two sisters must stay inside the moshari to survive – but first they must survive each other. (SSFF 2022)
