We continue with our list of short films you shouldn’t miss at the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia (Japan)which is taking place in cinemas until June 19th and online until June 21st. Winners will be screen online until June 30th, 2022.

**Octopus** by Isamu Hirabayashi – Japan | 2015 – 25 minutes
**Section**: Japanese Filmmakers on the Rise

On set for a commercial, an actress is overcome with a stomachache after eating forbidden octopus. With her stuck in the bathroom, the production is left with a furious client, nervous producer, and a chaotic set. (SSFF 2022)

**Rooster** by Myo Aung – Myanmar | 2021 – 10 minutes
**Section**: Asia International & Japan Program 2

Hung-hsia, a 12-year-old Burmese girl from a village in northern Myanmar, is married off to a wealthy Chinese family in Yunnan, China, whom she has never met. On the date of the wedding, the groom is bedridden with illness and unable to attend, and Hung-hsia has to complete the ceremony with a rooster. (SSFF 2022)

**Sandstorm** by Seemab Gul – Pakistan | 2021 – 20 minutes

Zara, a schoolgirl in Karachi (Pakistan), shares a sensual dance video with her virtual boyfriend, who then blackmails her. Caught between his manipulative behaviour and the desire to experience love on her own terms, Zara searches for the strength to reject the confines of a patriarchal society. (SSFF 2022)

**Senko-Hanabi** by Hitomi Kuroki – Japan | 2022 – 25 minutes

Miki suddenly returns to her home town. When her parents realize that she is expecting, they question her. Then Miki finds a letter in her desk. The letter, which she and her best friend Uzuki had continued writing during their school days, contained the lyrics that gave them comfort back then. (SSFF 2022)

**Shifting Sands** by May Thin Kyi – Myanmar | 2021 – 15 minutes

Every year, thousands of people flock to Yangon from rural dry zone to work in the factories. Ma Nwet Yin Win is one of them. She left her home on an island in the Ayeyarwaddy River twenty years ago, fighting for workers’ rights. (SSFF 2022)

**SHOLTE: The Lamp Wick** by Hemanta Sadeeq – Bangladesh | 2022 – 13 minutes
**Section**: Smartphone Film Competition supported by Sony’s Xperia

when teenage Pradip lost his father, he became helpless. The pandemic made living tougher and Pradip also had to complete the rituals of his father’s funeral. But the question arises, when he got to know that, funeral won’t be completed without a picture of the late person, is it really obvious to complete the funeral? (SSFF 2022)

**Silence in Tokyo** by Katsuhiko Mori – Japan | 2021 – 23 minutes
**Section**: Cinematic Tokyo Program

In 2020, COVID-19 suddenly strikes the world. A state of emergency is declared and people disappear from the streets. The director, Katsuhiko Mori filmed the streets every night in a deserted Tokyo, documenting a landscape and an era that may never be seen again. Set to the universal sound of classical music. **Sound of the Night** by Sok Chanrado & Kongkea Vann – Cambodia | 2021 – 20 minutes

Vibol and his brother Kea sell noodles on a motorized cart every night on the streets of Phnom Penh. They often face troublesome threats from gangsters and thieves, even if these very people are their only customers. As the city is growing around them, they consider their unstable income and imagine a different future. (SSFF 2022)

**The Limit Taxi Girl** by Masaya Yoshida – Japan | 2021 – 23 minutes

Saki, a lawyer, gets into a waiting cab to go to the airport. But the driver of the cab was her sister Satomi, who had been waiting for her, and against her sister’s wishes, drove her to the hospital where her mother was in critical condition. (SSFF 2022)

**The Sea Calls for Me** by Tumpal Tampubolon – Indonesia | 2021 – 18 minutes

Sura lives alone in the fishing village, waiting for his father to return home. When one day he finds a sex doll, he finds a companion and a surrogate parent. But this companionship is threatened by Argo, who wants to take it away from Sura. (SSFF 2022)

Shinji’s life has been ruined by Kyosuke’s crime. Shinji struggles with his relationship with his brother. As his brother is about to be released from prison, his fianc?e leaves him, his is estranged with his mother, and the truth about Kyosuke’s crime. He realizes there’s still a connection regardless of his feelings. (SSFF 2022)
