These are nine films you shouldn’t miss at the Helsinki Cine Aasia which will take place from May 5-8, 2022 in Helsinki, Finland.

**Aloners** by Hong Sung-eun – South Korea | 2021 – 91 minutes

Jina does her best to avoid people, which has worked well in her job at the call center and her single status. Things start falling apart, when due to circumstances beyond her control, she must break out of the mental cage she has built around herself, and let other people in. – Eija Niskanen

**Anita** by Longman Leung – Hong Kong | 2021 – 140 minutes

Anita Mui was one of the biggest Hong Kong stars from the goldenera of 1980s and 1990s known for her Cantopop hits, daring stage performances, and film roles. Her co-stars included the likes of Leslie Cheung, who was also one of her close friends. Through ups and downs Mui always stood with Hong Kong, and different phases in the city’s recent history, like the SARS epidemic, are present in the film. – Jenni Peisa

Leonor is a retired old lady, who hits on a chance to revive her past job as an action movie screenwriter. While Leonor’s family tries to solve their money problems, she delves deeper and deeper into a wild adventure with her script’s hero Ronwaldo. – Eija Niskanen

**On the Job: The Missing 8** by Erik Matti – Phiippines | 2021 – 209 minutes

The corrupt Filipino media landscape is the focus of this powerful political action crime thriller. Popular journalist Sisoy Salas must make choices between his connections to the political core and his lifelong colleague friends, with bloody consequences. The three-and-a-half-hour long intense film has taken some inspiration from real events and competed in the main series at Venice International Film Festival. – Jenni Peisa

**Onoda: 10000 Nights in the Jungle** by Arthur Harari – France, Japan | 2021 – 165 minutes

Onoda tells the true-life based story of a Japanese soldier who, after WWII had ended, stayed for 29 years on the Philippine island of Lubang, thinking that the war was still going on.

**The Apartment with Two Women** by Kim Se-in – South Korea | 2021 – 140 minutes

**The Book of Fish** by lee Joon-ik – South Korea | 2021 – 126 minutes

Exiled to a remote island as punishment for his views, the scholar Jeong Yak-jeon finds a new interest in the local sea creatures. With the reluctant help of fisherman Jang Chang-dae, research for what will become a classic encyclopedia can begin, while the fisherman also gains new horizons. **White Building** by Kavich Neang – Cambodia, France, China, Qatar | 2021 – 91 minutes

The White Building was built in the 1960s as affordable housing for the growing population of Phnom Penh. Since then, the paint has fallen off, and demolition is looming. Young Samnang wants to pursue his dream of becoming a hip-hop dancer while his father is trying to negotiate better compensations for residents willing to leave. The director has understanding for the community he himself grew up in. – Jenni Peisa

**Yuni** by Kamila Andini – Indonesia, Singapore | 2021 – 96 minutes

Yuni is a girl who loves everything purple. Doing well at school would be important considering her future goals of continuing her studies. An unexpected proposal puts a new spin on things, as according to belief she should not turn down too many proposals, if she is ever to marry. Balancing her desires and needs with the expectations of others is not easy. Director Kamila Andini’s other film Before, Now & Then (Nana) is also included in the festival program. – Jenni Peisa
