26th ifva Awards – Call for Entry 2020

The ifva Awards, formerly the Hong Kong Independent Short Film and Video Awards, is accepting Short Films and Media Art until October 12th, 2020. Here you can find more information about their call for entry. *Only for Hong Kong and Asian Filmmakers*

About the ifva Awards:
The ifva was founded by the Hong Kong Arts Centre in 1995. Over the years, ifva has established itself as Asia’s pioneering force in short film, animation and media arts, by providing a unique and professional platform for Hong Kong and Asian creative talents to unite, exchange and promote their works.

The Awards have five categories, Open Category, Youth Category, Animation Category, Media Art Category and Asian New Force Category.

Rules for ALL categories (except Media Art Category):
– Short Films MUST be produced or updated on or after October 1st, 2019.
– Short Films should not exceed the 30-minute mark (including end credits).
– Works that have been submitted to previous ifva Awards will not be accepted.
– Once the application is submitted, no entrant is allowed to withdraw.

Open Category:
– Only for filmmakers from Hong Kong (age of 18 or above) or Hong Kong Permanent resident.
– There are NO restrictions on shooting format.
– Accepts ANY type of films (such as fiction, documentary, experimental) except commercial.
– Short Films MUST have English subtitles.
– Submission MUST be done via the ivfa website.

Youth Category
– Only for filmmakers from Hong Kong (age of 17 or below) or Hong Kong Permanent resident.
– There are NO restrictions on shooting format.
– Accepts ANY type of films (such as fiction, documentary, experimental) except commercial.
– Short Films MUST have Chinese or English subtitles in case the language of the Entry is not in Cantonese.
– Submission MUST be done via the ivfa website.

Asian New Force Category:
– Filmmaker MUST be national or permanent resident of ANY Asian countries or region (excluding Hong Kong).
– There are NO restrictions on shooting format.
– Accepts ANY type of films (such as fiction, documentary, experimental) except commercial.
– Short Films MUST have English subtitles.
– Important: Asian filmmakers MUST submit to this category via Film Freeway (https://filmfreeway.com/ifvafestival).

Animation Competition:
– Accepts films from Hong Kong filmmakers (or permanent residents) and Asian filmmakers (or permanent resident of ANY Asian country).
– There are NO restrictions on shooting format.
– Accepts ANY type of films (such as fiction, documentary, experimental) except commercial.
– Short Films MUST have English subtitles.
– Important: Asian filmmakers MUST submit to this category via Film Freeway (https://filmfreeway.com/ifvafestival).

Media Art Category:
– Accepts works from Hong Kong artists (or permanent residents) and Asian artists (or permanent resident of ANY Asian country).
– Works must be produced or updated on or after October 1st, 2019.
– Must be a complete work.
– Media Art works can be in all forms and formats, including but not limited to digital art, interactive media, computer game, sound art, kinetic art, Virtual Reality (VR) works and any other time-based installations.
– Concept and design of work, demo video, technical requirement, set up plan and diagram are required to be submitted for assessment.
– The documents and video should be in English or with English subtitles.
– In the event that an Entry is shortlisted, the jury shall select the awarded works based on the exhibition at the Pao Galleries, Hong Kong Arts Centre at “The 26th ifva Festival”

– Submission Fees:

Deadline for all Categories: October 12th, 2020 (6:00 pm Hong Kong Time)
– Winners will be announced in December 2020 and screened in March 2021.
