The ShortShorts Film Festival & Asia is accepting short films until January 31st, 2019. Here you can find more information about their call for entry.

The Short Shorts Film Festival (SSFF) started in 1999 and became an Academy of Motion Picture Art and Sciences accredited festival in 2004, where the winner of the Short Shorts Grand Prix is eligible to receive an Academy Awards® nomination. SSFF has now become one of the largest short film festivals in Asia. In 2004, SSFF received a request from the Governor of Tokyo to develop film programs showcasing Asian short films. This led to the establishment of the Short Shorts Film Festival Asia. Now, these two festivals take place in Harajuku and Omotesando, Tokyo simultaneously in June as the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia.

For the Official Competition
– Films must have been produced after June 1st, 2017
– Films must be Japan Premiere.
– Films should not have been previously screened online or offline under any platform or festival.
– All Genres are accepted with the exception of music videos
– Films should NOT exceed 25 minutes.
– English subtitles are required for submissions with languages other than English or Japanese.
– Festival gives Cash Awards.
– Submission Fees:
Regular Submission – $ 20 USD
Late Submission – $ 30 USD
– Submissions via Withoutabox and FilmFreeway
Submission Deadlines:
Regular Submission – November 30th, 2018
Late Submission – January 31st, 2019

For the Save the Earth! Competition
– Festival accepts any environmental issues, such as global warming, air pollution, disruption of the ozone and so forth, must be main themes.
– Film doesn’t required Japan Premiere.
– Open to all Genres.
– Films should not exceed 25 minutes.
– Films can be from past years.
– English subtitles are required for submissions with languages other than English or Japanese.
– Festival gives Cash Awards.
– Submissions via Withoutabox, FilmFreeway and ShortFilmDepot.
– Submission Fee: FREE
– Submission Deadline: January 31st, 2019

For the CG Animation Competition
– Festival accepts any animated short films using either partly or fully computer-generated graphics.
– Film doesn’t required Japan Premiere.
– Films should not exceed 25 minutes.
– Films must have been produced after June 1st, 2017.
– English subtitles are required for submissions with languages other than English or Japanese.
– Festival gives Cash Awards.
– Submissions via Withoutabox, FilmFreeway and ShortFilmDepot.
– Submission Fee: FREE
– Submission Deadline: January 31st, 2019

For the Cinematic Tokyo Competition
– Tokyo MUST feature in the film. You do not have to show the real Tokyo or even shoot in Tokyo, and depictions can be based on your imagination or fiction.
– Film doesn’t required Japan Premiere.
– All genres are accepted.
– Films should not exceed 25 minutes.
– Films can be from past years.
– English subtitles are required for submissions with languages other than English or Japanese.
– Festival gives Cash Awards.
– Submissions via Withoutabox, FilmFreeway and ShortFilmDepot.
– Submission Fee: FREE
– Submission Deadline: January 31st, 2019

For the Branded Shorts Competition
– The release period should be between January 1st (2018) to March 31st, 2019.
– Films should not exceed 25 minutes.
– Submissions must be videos produced with the aim of communicating the brand or services of a company/organization to its customers. The company/organization can be part of any industry. The movie can be submitted by any relevant party; the company/organization it was produced for, the advertising company, the production company etc.
– In order to promote Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia and Branded Shorts, selected works may be screened/streamed at events or via websites managed by the Committee for Short Shorts (operations company: Pacific Voice Inc.) or other third parties involved. The entering company must receive approval from all related parties.
– Submission Fee:
Regular Deadline – 20,000 JPY
Final Deadline – 30,000 JPY
– Submission Deadline:
Regular Deadline: November 30th, 2018
Final Deadline: March 31st, 2019

For the Non-Fiction Competition
– Documentary motion picture. It may employ any techniques as long as the film is made as a non-fiction film and the emphasis is on fact and not on fiction.
– Film doesn’t required Japan Premiere. However online streaming of the film in the Japanese language or with Japanese subtitles on any foreign website before and or during the festival period will be disqualified.
– All genres are accepted.
– Films should not exceed 25 minutes.
– Films must have been produced after June 1st, 2017.
– English subtitles are required for submissions with languages other than English or Japanese.
– Festival gives Cash Awards.
– Submissions via Withoutabox, FilmFreeway and ShortFilmDepot.
– Submission Fee: FREE
– Submission Deadline: January 31st, 2019
