45th Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival – Asian Presence 2022

Twelve Asian short films were selected for the International Competition of the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival (France). The festival will take place from January 27 – February 4, 2023.

A Lost Astronaut and a City of Footprints by Khue Vu Nguyen Nam – Vietnam | 2022 – 15 minutes

An executive trapped in his own nightmares. In those dreams, he becomes a woman, the wife of a colleague. In those dreams, the belongings of the deceased astronaut are handed over to the wife. The woman and her bureaucracy, the executive and his recurring nightmares. How can one escapes?

Holy Cowboys by Varun Chopra – India, USA | 2021 – 25 minutes

A Hindu teen and his friends tread the world of retributive justice of a ‘cow protection’ vigilante group to end consumption of beef, exploring what it means to be a savior of the holy cow in modern day India. (LAAPFF 2022)

The House of Loss by Jinkyu Jeon – South Korea, Japan | 2022 – 10 minutes

The elderly at the nursing home have their heads shaved. The protagonist who works there looks at them but can’t read their expressions. However, from one instance, he finds himself looking closely at their faces. (SIFF 2022)

Hills and Mountains by Salar Pashtoonyar – Afghanistan, Canada | 2022 – 8 minutes

Shooting on location in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, director Salar Pashtoonyar uses a thought-provoking yet powerfully humane hybrid of documentary and fiction to delve deep into the experience of a woman forced to the edge of her society. (MUBI)
