16th Vilnius International Short Film Festival – Asian Presence 2023

We present the Asian films that will be screened at the Vilnius International Short Film Festival (Lithuania) which will take place from January 18 – 24, 2023.

Alien by Je-gwang Yeon – Korea | 2019 – 15 minutes

Reonghee and I are illegal aliens. Yesterday, Reonghee died while running away from the Immigrant Office Agents. The company we worked for is only concerned about covering up the mess. I’m going to find Reonghee, who’s body the company has hidden somewhere and give her funeral that she deserves. (VilniusISFF 2022)

Bird in the Peninsula by Atsushi Wada – France, Japan | 2022 – 16 minutes

Children dance to music under the supervision of their teacher. A young girl attends the scene and comes to disturb their ritual. (VilniusISFF 2022)

Murder Tongue by Ali Sohail Jaura – Pakistan | 2022 – 18 minutes

It is May of 1992. The state sanctioned “Operation” has put the city of Karachi at constant unrest. Abdul Aziz Ansari wakes up at night and is informed by his daughter in law, Naseema that his son hasn’t returned home. As a knock on their door later at night summons them to the hospital, what they witness along the way is known today as the most brutal chapter of the city’s history, a sentiment of hatred towards their race, deep rooted beneath the system. Seungwoo by Haesol Lee – Korea | 2022 – 16 minutes

A 14-year-old boy who survived govermental violence is now a 54-year-old middle-aged man. He tries to live a normal life while trying to forget about his past. (VilniusISFF 2022)

Snail by Tae-yang Kim – Korea | 2020 – 20 minutes

After getting off the bus at the wrong stop, a guy walks along the familiar street. That night, he happens to walk along the same street again, finding some changes. (VilniusISFF 2022)

Tank Fairy by Erich Rettstadt – Taiwan, USA | 2021 – 10 minutes

Once upon a time, the magical Tank Fairy delivered tanks of gas (with plenty of sass) to the home of young Jojo, a lonely dreamer in need of a glittery godmother… (VilniusISFF 2022)
